Apple Watch 2 Specs Revealed: GPS, Barometer, Release Date Soon?
The arrival of the Apple Watch 2 is imminent, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo states that the smartwatch will most likely be released in late 2016 which could possibly mean that it would be announced alongside the iPhone 7 next month.
The analyst also states that the Apple Watch 2 will be similar to an iPhone S model update as it will have the same physical appearance with its predecessor, but with upgraded internals, according to 9To5Mac.
The Apple Watch 2 is said to come with built-in GPS, barometer, a faster SoC CPU and a slightly better waterproof chassis. Features on the original Apple Watch are expected to be included on the Watch 2 as well.
As stated before, the Watch 2 will look similar with the original version. This also means that the upgraded smartwatch won't have a thinner body, and will instead share the same dimensions with the original.
This may come as a disappointment to some users, but at least this comes with an advantage. The Watch 2 is believed to come with a higher capacity battery, according to Apple Insider.
By making the Apple Watch 2's size the same while improving its internal components, it allows Apple to place a larger battery that would be able to power up the more advanced components.
Kuo also believes that Apple will also be announcing an upgraded version of the Apple Watch 1 at the same time. This version will have a better processor and a improved waterproofing. The only thing missing in this upgrade of the Watch is the built-in GPS and barometer.
Lastly, the analyst predicts that the original Apple Watch will receive a price cut once its successors are announced. Kuo predicts that it's possible that Apple will cut off $100 from its price tag which will bring its price just below $200.
Although there haven't been much indication of an Apple Watch 2, many still expect that it will make an appearance next month in Apple's annual fall event on September 7, the same event where the iPhone 7 is expected to be unveiled.
The current and most popular rumor is that the iPhone 7 will be released on September 16, while the exact release date for the Apple Watch 2 has not yet been determined.
