iPhone 7 Rumors Gain Credibility: dual-camera system, pressure-sensitive home button

Apple is expected to officially unveil the iPhone 7 next month and it looks like most of the rumors and leaks leading up to its release may already have been confirmed.

The three biggest changes that are expected to be part of this year's iPhone lineup are the dual-camera system, removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack and the addition of a new pressure-sensitive home button, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Rumors of a new pressure sensitive home button for the iPhone 7 first popped up back in June. The new button will be flush on the face of the handset and it will not actually click down when pressed. Instead, the new home button will give off a haptic feedback providing the sensation of a real click.

With Bloomberg reporting the same details regarding the iPhone 7, it looks like the addition of the pressure-sensitive home button on the upcoming device is almost certain.

Apple's dual-camera system will only be part of the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus. The new camera setup will be able to produce brighter photos with more detail. Each camera comes with a different sensor that would enable it to capture colors differently. 

The two images captured by the sensors will be merged as one to produce a single image with better color reproduction, brightness and detail even in low lighting conditions, according to Bloomberg's source who was able to use an iPhone 7 Plus prototype.

The iPhone 7 Plus will also feature better camera zoom because of the dual camera sensors, as pointed out by The Verge. The smaller 4.7-inch iPhone 7 won't come with dual cameras, but it will still have improvements over its predecessor.

The most unsurprising development of the iPhone 7 is the removal of the analog headphone jack. Apple wants users to privately listen to audio with Bluetooth headphones instead, or with new headphones equipped with the company's proprietary Lightning connector.

Sources say that Apple decided to remove the headphone jack so that it can place a second speaker. Some have reported previously that Apple also removed the headphone jack in order to make the iPhone 7 even thinner than the iPhone 6s.

Finally, the previous rumor of a new space black color option may have already been confirmed thanks to a newly-leaked photo of the iPhone 7's chassis, as originally reported by 9To5Mac this past Monday.

The new color option appears to be quite similar to the space black color option that's available for the Apple Watch. What's unclear is whether this new iPhone color option will replace the space grey option.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus this September 7, with a rumored release date of September 16.
