Apple iPad Pro 2 To Replace MacBook By Running OS X? Rumored Specs, Features Revealed

Is Apple planning on ditching its MacBook line by upsizing its iPad Pro's features and functionality?

Early this week, the Cupertino-headquartered company released an interesting advertisement for its humungous iPad Pro on YouTube.

The title of the ad — "iPad Pro - What's a Computer?" — sounds interesting and the video description is just as interesting since it says, "You think you know what a computer is, but then you see this one. Meet iPad Pro."

However, it appears that Apple could just be teasing about the possibility of ditching its MacBook line and focusing on the iPad Pro line as the daily driver of its consumers.

Nonetheless, since the iPad Pro's time is up, the Cupertino company could be looking at realizing this new goal through its upcoming iPad Pro 2, with Value Walk reporting that the next-generation Pro will likely run iOS 10.2 with more Mac OS-like features and behavior.

Apple is actually marketing its iPad Pro line as the "ultimate replacement" for laptops and PCs, so some sources believe that it is possible that the next iteration of the iPad Pro could be running Mac OS X, given that iOS has so many limitations compared with the MacBook's operating system.

Forbes' take on the issue even sides with the MacBook as the more productive and more easy-to-use device, citing that many people still prefer the precision of a typing device over one that relies on pointing on a screen.

Interestingly, Forbes noted that things could change soon since an unnamed source has told the site that Apple could be looking at removing the aspects of iOS that are "ancient and bad" and transforming the operating system into something that can function like OS X but still keep the simplicity and superiority of iOS.

Whether Apple really intends to focus on the iPad Pro line is yet to be confirmed. For now, the upcoming iPad Pro 2 is getting attention online due to earlier leaks that tease about its possible specs and features.

The large iPad Pro 2 is rumored to come with 12.9-inch screen with adaptive display technology, Apple's A10X processor, Smart Connector, Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil stylus, as per Know Your Mobile.

Though Apple has yet to formally announce the release date of the iPad Pro 2, there are rumors that point at a possible October/November launch since the tech giant will be preoccupied with the launch and release of its iPhone 7 devices this September.
