'The Walking Dead' EP Explains Why Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan Is The Show's Ultimate Villain

(Photo : Gene Page/AMC) "The Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Anne Hurd explained why Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan is unlike any villain fans have met before.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan is not your typical "The Walking Dead" antagonist. In fact, series executive producer Gale Anne Hurd dubbed the new baddie as the show's "ultimate villain."

"I think Negan is the ultimate villain. He's been the ultimate villain in the comic book," Hurd recently told E! News during the Television Critics Association summer press tour. "[And that's because] I think Jeffrey Dean Morgan is bringing him to life the way that I imagined because he is larger than life, he is charismatic, and he really enjoys what he does. He doesn't seem to have much of a conscience about it, and that's the kind of person we haven't seen before."

"Everyone else had a justification that they were reasoning as to why they did what they did, some of the evil things. They always had an excuse," Hurd said of the series' previous baddies. "Well, Negan [just] rules."

While it's unclear whether Morgan also sees his character as the villain of all villains in the world of "The Walking Dead," the 50-year-old actor did admit that the he thinks David Morrissey's the Governor is no match with his Lucille-wielding character.

"It's not even close," Morgan told Entertainment Weekly, grinning, when asked who he thinks will win a battle between Negan and the Governor. "I mean, I love David Morrissey, but he wouldn't stand a chance. Wouldn't stand a chance. I'd put Negan up against anybody. He's super smart and there's no filter, no fear. The Governor was a little bit wack. Negan's got it together. It wouldn't even be close. And I'm sorry, 'cause I really love David. He's awesome. I worked with him for a year and there's just not a better guy. But Negan versus the Governor wouldn't be close."

"The Walking Dead" season 7 will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
