"Doctor Strange" star Benedict Cumberbatch thinks that fans might be surprised by the things Stephen Strange is willing to go through in order to become the Sorcerer Supreme.

Shortly after Marvel's star-studded panel at San Diego Comic-Con last month, Collider was able to ask Cumberbatch what aspect of the film is going to surprise people, and he said that viewers is going surprised by "quite how much he suffers and quite how much extraordinary his will power is."

"I think that's his main superhero trait," the 40-year-old English actor said of his character's strong-willed personality. "This guy is sort of unstoppably stubborn. He won't cease -- and that's great, because you see this character really go through the grind. It's like non-stop punishment for this dude."

"What he has to become [after the car accident] and how quickly he's tested in the new arena that he becomes this person is so violent, so sudden, so non-stop and psychologically brutal as well as physically very very brutal," Cumberbatch continued. "It's a huge character arc, so I think that might surprise people. It takes a long while until we have those heroic moments [teased in the trailer]."

While some fans might find that long wait a little bit unexciting, the "Sherlock" star said that -- as an actor -- he's thrilled by it "because you just get to see this transition between a beginning, and a middle and an end." "It's cool," he said.

Besides Cumberbatch, "Doctor Strange" also stars Mads Mikkelsen ("Casino Royale"), Chiwetel Ejiofor ("12 Years a Slave"), Rachel McAdams ("Midnight in Paris"), Michael Stuhlbarg ("A Serious Man"), Tilda Swinton ("We Need To Talk About Kevin"), Amy Landecker ("A Serious Man"), Scott Adkins ("Expendables 2") and Benedict Wong ("The Martian"), among many others.

Scott Derrickson directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts and Scott C. Robert. The movie is slated to open in theaters on Nov. 4.
