(Photo : CD Projekt RED/Facebook) "The Witcher 3" has been a huge success as a game based on books, and the source author recently discussed that hype. Andrzej Sapkowski expressed that gaming notoriety cheapens the value of his text "The Witcher 3" is available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

"The Witcher 3" has been a massive success, and the author of the source book series has a strange way of showing appreciation for it. In a new interview, Andrzej Sapkowski discussed how the hype behind the "Witcher" games tarnishes his accomplishments as a writer.

The translated statement comes to Design & Trend via Poland's Allegro magazine. In a lengthy chat, the publication touched on the man's legacy, awards and what he's reading today.

Quite possibly the most interesting quote came when Sapkowski was asked about how expansive "The Witcher" franchise has become. He notes that, over the past three decades, his work has made it to 20 different countries all over the world. Such amazing feat is referred to as a "considerable international literary success" by the writer. Translation gets a little dicey after that, but it's mentioned that games like "The Witcher 3," "discounted his own success" to some degree since the books have been published.

That being said, despite the many forms that "The Witcher" now takes, Sapkowski made it clear that his original vision will always remain pure. "What way would the Witcher move away from his character," he playfully asks. Above all, as its author and the franchise's "sole, exclusive creator," everything that derives from that source material must pass by him first. There is no change that doesn't get his approval.

In that same vein, Sapkowski also expressed some apprehension that "interactivity in story creation will mean the end of traditional literature." "Literature is not a role-playing game," he argues, "it's a narrative that's crafted by an author with a single vision." To him, the many dialogue choices allowed by games like "The Witcher 3" can sometimes end up detracting from the purity of an idea. It's on this very principle that the man has based his entire career.

Yet, even though video games are something of a foreign art to Sapkowski, he still loves reading e-books. When he's not working on a new literary project, he's a known and avid consumer of his contemporaries. In fact, these days, he's diving headfirst into just about everything from non-fiction to crime novels. It's implied that he's working on something new of his own, but it's not revealed what it will be.

Andrzej Sapkowski has long been vocal about his views on video games, but it's worth noting that his insight isn't all negative. The author is known for being abrasive at times, but he does generally have a sense of respect for what teams like CD Projekt RED have accomplished. "The Witcher 3" has been privy to critical acclaim, several DLC packs and an incoming game of the year edition.

"The Witcher 3" is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
