"iZombie" has shorter episode count for season 3.

During an interview with the Los Angeles Times at San Diego Comic-Con last week, executive producer Rob Thomas revealed that the upcoming installment of the CW's zom-com-rom-dram is only getting 13 episodes. The series had 19 episodes in season 2 and 13 episodes in season 1.

"This year we know there are going to be 13 episodes, which is much easier to plan when they sort of give you a number," Thomas said. "Last year it was going to be variable, and so it's hard to plan out those last few episodes. We sort of jammed nine episodes worth of story into our final six last year when we found out we were doing 19. So this year, we know, we've got a plan, and it should feel like a new 'iZombie' story."

When asked how the new characters will impact the flow of the story in season 2, Thomas said: "We're going to be replacing energy drink company Max Rager with a military contractor company called Fillmore Graves. ... a zombie outfit bent on protecting zombies."

"We'll spend a lot of time with that group," he continued. "Liv [Rose McIver] and Major [Robert Buckley] and Clive [Malcolm Goodwin] will certainly be very wrapped up in the Fillmore Graves world."

At the end of season 2, Vivian (Andrea Savage), CEO of Fillmore Graves, asked Liv to join her in her quest to make Seattle the capital of the zombie homeland. McIver, however, revealed during the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel last week that "Liv is very conflicted" at the beginning of season 3.

"[Vivian's plan is] a military operation. This is a bunch of zombies she didn't know about... It definitely has a sinister feel about it," explained McIver. "[Good thing Liv] "has a whole lot of people to talk to about it to help make considered decisions."

Thomas noted during the panel that "a lot of season 3" is going to be about Liv figuring out whether she's Team Zombie or Team Humanity.
