'Grey's Anatomy' Season 13 Star Ellen Pompeo Explains Why She Decided To Stick With ABC Show
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the actress said that her decision to stay in the series was based solely on her age.
"At 33, I was wise enough to know my clock was already ticking in Hollywood," she said.
The actress added that if she had gotten her big break in Hollywood at a much younger age, she would've probably spent more time choosing her projects.
However, since she was aware that it would be difficult to find roles when she hit the age of 40, she decided to sign on with Shonda Rhimes' TV series.
"I thought, 'Why would I leave something that is super successful and pays me great to search the landscape?' I decided that I would stay on 'Grey's' and be grateful and try to ride it out for as long as I could. And I am very happy that I made the decision to stay. It's only gotten better with time," she said.
Meanwhile, no matter how lucky Pompeo feels for being in "Grey's Anatomy" for 13 seasons, the actress said that there's one thing she doesn't like about being in the show.
According to her, she's not very pleased to see herself age over time on television.
"But as uncomfortable as watching myself age is, I don't think focusing on physical beauty is necessarily the best thing for your mind. It's a natural thing that we all do, but I don't think it's the healthiest thing. The older you get, the more realize life isn't about your looks. Everyone ages, and it's okay," she said.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 will premiere on ABC on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.
