Do you think James Franco would have made a good Jesse Custer?

That's what the directors/producers, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, of AMC's "Preacher" thought, or at least they entertained the idea. According to /Film, at this year's Comic-Con Rogen and Goldberg revealed that they once considered Franco for the lead role of the Preacher.

"We had a nice conversation with James Franco at one point," said Goldberg. "He looks very Jesse-ish. He was into it but just literally he has to make 4,000 things in 20 different formats. It would take up his time and he wouldn't be able to do a Tori Spelling movie or whatever the hell he was going to do."

"[Franco] was dangling from a crane in Venice at the time so he couldn't work us in. I think that was even before, that was in a very preliminary phase."

It's not much of a surprise that Rogen would consider Franco for the part. After all, the two actors are the best of friends and have worked on several movies together, including "Pineapple Express" and "This is the End."

In the end, Dominic Cooper landed the role of Jesse Custer, and has done a great job with it throughout the season.

"Preacher" would mark Rogen's first TV series as a director and producer. One wouldn't think the comedic actor would be behind something that is as dark as "Preacher." But Rogen definitely brings an element of dark humor to the show. Rogen has admitted that he has been a huge fan of the '90s comic "Preacher" by Garth Ennis, on which the show is based.

According to Entertainment Weekly, in 2008 there was once going to be a film adaptation of the comic to be directed by "Skyfall" and "American Beauty" director, Sam Mendes. Seth Rogen excitedly contacted Mendes to see if he could audition for the role of his favorite character from the show.

"Preacher has passed through many hands," Rogen told Entertainment Weekly. "It's funny, I just found an email that I sent to Sam Mendes in 2008, when he was announced as the director, asking if I could audition for the role of 'Arseface.'"

"And he said I could. But then the movie fell apart. So, I don't take it personally," he added.

In Rogen's "Preacher," Ian Colletti plays the role of Eugene "Arseface" Root.

Make sure to catch the season finale of "Preacher" July 31 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
