On Friday, Golden Voice and AEG held the inaugural first day of the Panorama music festival at Randall's Island in New York City. Being first day of a new festival, many visitors didn't know what to expect but it seemed to be a great day for everyone in attendance. Here's 10 takeaways and surprises from the first day.
1. It Was Extremely Hot

Temperatures yesterday were in the high-90s but the festival did a great job at making sure people could stay cool. With water-refill stations sponsored by CamelBak scattered throughout and air-conditioned stand-alone buildings from HP, MTV, American Express and more, there were tons of ways to beat the heat. My personal favorite was Macy's Oasis station which had fans blowing mist and employees handing out bandanas soaked in ice water.
2. The Bathrooms Were Beautiful
Going to a music festival, you don't expect to leave talking about the bathrooms but the bathrooms at Panorama weren't your usual Porta-Potties. They were air-conditioned trailers with sinks, mirrors and personal stalls.
3. Major Lazer Put On One Of The Best Performances

With the sun beaming down on the crowd, Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire — better known as Major Lazer — put on one of the best performances of the day. Even though the heat was brutal, the three members still managed to put their all into the show, running around, dancing and throwing giveaways into the crowd.
4. DJ Khaled Brought Out Surprise Guests
Even though he was regulated to the smallest stage at the festival (The Parlor), DJ Khaled still managed to steal the show thanks to his friends. During his set, Khaled brought out T.I., Fat Joe and Remy Ma.
5. Schoolboy Q Was Not Feeling The Crowd

Having just released a new album, you would have expected rapper Schoolboy Q to perform plenty of songs from it but according to the rapper himself, the crowd was one of the least energized crowds he had ever performed for. With 16 minutes left in his set, Schoolboy Q walked off stage, only to reappear a few minutes later. Q performed one more song and left again, this time for good, with nine minutes left in his set.
6. Arcade Fire Gave Fans Their Money's Worth
Headlining the first night of Panorama, Arcade Fire put on a great performance, giving a tribute to David that included the band getting off stage and walking through the giant field all the way to Google's Google Play Music Block exhibit.
7. The Side Exhibits Were A Nice Way To Chill
As mentioned before, MTV and HP each had their own spots set up throughout the festival. Besides being the best way to beat the heat, the spots also had DJs playing. HP's stop had Toro y Moi DJing at one point.
8. The Panorama Stage Was Beautiful
Being the main stage of the festival, the Panorama stage was breathtaking, especially at night thanks to its 30-foot tall screen that wraps 170 feet around the stage.
9. The VIP Sections Were Worth It
If you didn't get to go yesterday but have VIP passes for today or tomorrow, just know that your passes were money well spent. The VIP sections where guests could hang out featured comfy spots to sit and rest as well as quick and easy ways to get food.
10. Artists Were Giving It Their All
Besides Schoolboy Q's exit, many of the artists yesterday put on great shows, even in the unbearable heat. From Major Lazer to Silversun Pickups, even if the artists were just as hot as the crowd, they still had a good time.
