Last Thursday morning, "Game of Thrones" stars Kit Harington and Maisie Williams have snagged their first Emmy nominations, and one of the many people who are pleased by their recognition is George R.R. Martin.

Harington is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his performance as Jon Snow on the hit HBO series. His "Game of Thrones" co-star Peter Dinklage, who won the category in 2011 and 2015, is once again nominated this year.

Williams, meanwhile, is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, for her portrayal of Arya Stark. Her "Game of Thrones" co-stars Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey, who have been both nominated in the same category twice before, are again up for the same Emmy.

Completing the list of this year's acting nominees for "Game of Thrones" is Max Von Sydow who is nominated for Best Actor in a Guest Role for his role as Three-eyed raven.

"I am thrilled and happy for all our nominees, of course... but it made me especially happy to see Kit and Maisie get some love from the Academy at last," Martin wrote on his LiveJournal. "About damn time, I say. They are several years overdue."

The 67-year-old author, who wrote the novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" on which "Game of Thrones" is based, also revealed that he "would have loved to see Sophie Turner" on the list of nominees as well. "I know, I know, I'm greedy," he added.

In addition to acting nominations, "Game of Thrones" also received Emmy nods for directing, writing, cinematography, costumes, visual effects, production design, stunts, editing, hairstyling, make-up and casting. Overall, the fantasy drama series scored 23 nominations.
