At just 20 years old, singer Melanie Martinez has quietly and quickly become one of pop music's brightest stars. After being featured on "The Voice," Martinez went on to release her debut album in 2015 which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard charts and has gone on to be certified gold. Here are five things to know about the singer.

1. She Was On Season Three Of "The Voice"

Four years ago, Melanie Martinez was getting her start in music when she competed in "The Voice." Martinez sang Britney Spears' "Toxic" during the blind auditions and landed on Adam Levine's team. Martinez made it all the way to week the top six of the show before getting eliminated. "I never expected to get this far and this is beyond what I've ever dreamed of. I'm just so glad I got to express who I am as an artist and really touch people's hearts because that was the ultimate goal."

2. "Mrs. Potato Head" Is Her Favorite Song

According to Martinez, out of all of her songs, "Mrs. Potato Head" is her favorite. According to the singer, the visual for the song was in her head for a while. "I thought it was super important for me to write this song because I know there are other people encountering the same problem as me."

3. She Hates Female Artists Being Compared

When it comes to today's new style of pop music, artists such as Martinez, Banks, FKA Twigs and more always get pitted against each other and always get compared to Lana Del Rey, something Martinez hates. "I think it’s really annoying, and it sucks because no artist is looking at another artist like, “I hate them.” Every artist is focused on themself," she told Idolator.

4. She Dislikes "Walking In A Winter Wonderland"

Last Christmas, Martinez released some new music for her fans but there's one Christmas song she hates. "I don’t hate it, I just can’t listen to it because of experiences when I was younger — just hearing it over and over again in elementary school, the whole choir would sing it, and it was like, “Oh, my God, it’s just too much” — is 'Walking In A Winter Wonderland.' I can’t do it," she said.

5. She Has A Soft Spot For The Notorious B.I.G.

Growing up, Melanie says her house was full of "heavy hip-hop" and The Beatles. In an interview with Newsday, Melanie said she still has a soft spot for Biggie. "There's a heavy hip-hop influence in my music, some trap influence, but it's always lyrical."
