(Photo : Square Enix/Disney/YouTube) "Kingdom Hearts III" was absent from E3 2016, but we still managed to pick up five hints about the game. Among them, we learned that the title will have a prologue and may release in Japan first. "Kingdom Hearts III" is in development for PS4 and Xbox One.

"Kingdom Hearts III" wasn't a major topic of discussion at E3 2016, but we did get a few release and story hints from translated interviews during the week. Here's what we learned about Sora's PS4 and Xbox One adventure!

1) News Update Coming In December

This was technically revealed before E3, but it was a major part of the "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" E3 trailer. The next major update about "Kingdom Hearts III" will happen sometime during the month of December.

It's not known what will be revealed or how. Our best bet is on some kind of showcase during PlayStation Experience 2016. The annual Sony press conference takes place during that month. However, a purely online reveal is just as possible too. At the very least, we hope to see a new Disney-themed world!

2) No "Final Fantasy" Worlds

Speaking of worlds, "Kingdom Hearts" co-director Tai Yasue said that none of the game's locales will come from Square Enix's "Final Fantasy." "We're not adding any 'Final Fantasy' worlds," he confirmed. "At this moment, we are not really coming up with any plans for that. We're making original worlds and Disney worlds."

By original worlds he of course means places that are unique to the series. In the past this has included the likes of Traverse Town and Hollow Bastion. No Midgar for now!

3) How Its Story Lines Up With "Kingdom Hearts 2.8"

"Kingdom Hearts III" story details are sparse to say the least, but, during E3, we learned how the third installment fits with this year's "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" compilation.

Specifically, director Tetsuya Nomura mentioned that the upcoming franchise games should be enjoyed as follows: "Kingdom Hearts 3D," "Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep 0.2" and "Kingdom Hearts III." The first two titles are included on one disc as "Kingdom Hearts 2.8." That doesn't say much about the timeline of the new game, though. It just means that the content should be played in that order.

4) "Kingdom Hearts III" Will Have A Narrative Prologue Of Its Own

Even though "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" essentially acts as a prologue to the third game, there will be a second intro within "Kingdom Hearts III" that gets all players acquainted with the plot. Nomura has said that the conversation featured in past trailers is the game's opening scene. Should that be true, we might play as young Eraqus or Xehanort before taking control of Sora.

5) It Might Release In Japan First

Everybody is dying to know when "Kingdom Hearts III" will finally release on PS4 and Xbox One. Unfortunately, E3 didn't bring us any closer to answering that question.

That being said, Nomura did tell Famitsu that the title "might hit Japan slightly earlier than the rest of world," but its arrival is expected to be "nearly simultaneous" regardless. Square Emix plans to launch "Final Fantasy XV" globally on Sept. 30, so the publisher could easily do something similar with "Kingdom Hearts."

"Kingdom Hearts III" is in development for PS4 and Xbox One.
