If you haven't heard already, Drake won the Best Male Hip Hop Artist award at the 2016 BET Awards, and he beat out some real rap heavyweights like Kanye West and J. Cole.

Kendrick Lamar was also on the list of nominees, as well as Fetty Wap and Future so among all those acts - who've had pretty impressive runs recently - why was Drizzy the ultimate victor?

More specifically, how did he beat out K Dot, considering the TDE artist dropped two well-received projects in the last year in "To Pimp A Butterfly" and "Untitled Unmastered?"

Quite possibly, it could have something to do with these five reasons below:

1. Short Memory

Drake just dropped his fourth studio album "Views" just a couple of months ago in April, and if you know anything about today's music, it comes and goes pretty fast. So it's possible folks have already moved on to the music that's current.

2. Kendrick Has Already Received A lot Of Praise For "To Pimp A Butterfly"

Not only did he clean up at the 2016 Grammy Awards, the Compton spitter has been the talk of hip-hop for the past several months, so by now newer projects and the artists behind them have to be honored.

3. Drake's "Views" Is One Of The Biggest Releases This Year

Drake's "Views" has broken sales chart streaming records, and it's taken the hip-hop world by storm, which alone makes him deserving for the BET award. At least that's how some may see it.

4. Drake's "Views" is more lighthearted, An Easier Listen

Not everybody prefers Kendrick's political content over Drake's rhymes about fame, success and relationships, so that may be the reason he beat out the Cali wordsmith.

5. It's Simply Drake's Time Right Now It's just a matter of physics.

Two objects, two people, two albums can't occupy the exact same space, so at least one has to stand out a little, and right now that album is "Views."

Clearly, it's Drizzy's time right now, so the fact that he beat out all the other artists in this category really isn't that surprising.
