'Homeland' Season 6 Premiere Date Pushed To 2017 As Execs Negotiate Season 7 And 8 Renewal

There is good news and bad news for "Homeland" fans. The good news is that network executives at Showtime are inching towards a deal that ensures the TV series is renewed for season 7 and season 8, TVLine reports. The network's CEO, David Nevins, announced the good news on Wednesday, June 1, to reporters during a conference call.
Nevins explained, "'Homeland' is a show that is constantly reinventing itself ... since it's very much about this Intelligence world. More than most, this is a show that has an open-ended expiration date, just because of the subject matter."
The bad news is that the drama series' sixth season won't air before January 2017. Instead of airing during the fall, as is the show's custom, "Homeland" season 6 will air in the first half of 2017.
"Homeland's" fall slot will be occupied by "Shameless" season 7.
As we reported earlier, season 6 will be set and shot in New York. The series will take place during the two month period between Election Day and the swearing in of the new President of the United States. The transfer of power during this 72-day period will be explored in the upcoming season.
Furthermore, Rupert Friend's Peter Quinn is [spoiler alert!] back as a series regular in season 6. This means, Quinn isn't dead, as was widely believed after the season 5 finale. Friend believes that his character, although alive, will not be the same. However, filming for the upcoming season of "Homeland" still hasn't begun, so Friend's thoughts should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Fans of the TV show will have to bear a long wait.
