"Homeland" showrunner Alex Gansa has finally put to rest all the rumors surrounding Peter Quinn's death in the season 5 finale. Towards the final moments of the episode, Carrie Mathison seemingly pulled the plug on her love interest. It was unclear for a long time whether Quinn really did die, but Gansa has now told Entertainment Weekly that he will be back!
Rupert Friend, the talented actor who plays Quinn, has also been cast in the Showtime thriller as a full-fledged series regular, TVLine confirmed. Which means, viewers will see a lot more of the CIA officer. However, Gansa didn't provide any details on how we find Quinn when the show returns this fall.
All Gansa said about Friend's character is, "I hope he [Quinn] enjoys eating through a tube." He also added later, "How Peter Quinn's character is gonna be dramatized this year is going to surprise people, and it may not be what you think."
Rupert Friend speculated that his character will be a changed man in season 6 since he's had so many near-death experiences. According to Friend, fans will see a much more intimate and personal side to him. However, none of "Homeland's" actors know anything about their character's fates since the TV series has yet to start filming.
Gansa also addressed Carrie and Quinn's burgeoning romance ever since Nicholas Brody exited the series in season 3. "First and foremost they recognize each other, and I think in the world that's what we're all hoping for, is that there's another person out there that recognizes us," he said, "Whether that means they're compatible romantically, that's another issue entirely. Quinn really put his life in her hands at the end of last season and we will see what decision she made, but that's going to have repercussions moving forward for her and for that idea of Quinn as well."
"Homeland" season 6 will be set and shot in New York. The show will take place during the two month period between Election Day and the swearing in of the new President of the United States. The transfer of power during this 72-day period will be explored in the upcoming season.
