"Scandal" season six's premiere date will reportedly be moved back to a much later date to accommodate Kerry Washington's pregnancy.
According to TV Line, ABC network president for entertainment Channing Dungey said that they will make some adjustments to make sure that Washington will have a healthy pregnancy.
Additionally, Dungey confirmed during a recent conference call that "Scandal" season 6 will only have 16 episodes as opposed to its original plan of 22 episodes.
With this, "Scandal" season 6 will premiere sometime mid-season and its 9 p.m. timeslot will first be given to the new ABC show "Notorious."
Meanwhile, executive producer Shonda Rhimes spoke with Entertainment Weekly to say that Washington's Olivia Pope will have brighter days in season 6.
In the previous season, Olivia got an abortion. She also broke up with Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) and President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn).
Olivia was also tricked and manipulated by her own father Rowan (Joe Morton) several times.
At present, she's stressed over Mellie's (Bellamy Young) campaign because she wants to make sure that Mellie will become the next president of the United States.
Luckily, Olivia will experience some kind of peace in the upcoming episodes.
"I don't know if you will notice this - because Olivia beats people to death with chairs and stuff - but I feel like I can see it: There's an optimism that exists in the work now... We're heading some place optimistic," Rhimes said.
In other news, there are some speculations that Rhimes will include a pregnancy storyline for Olivia and President Fitz.
Since President Fitz will no longer be in the White House starting November, he could decide to pursue Olivia again.
If the latter agrees to get back together with him, they could start building the family that they have always wanted.
"Scandal" season 6 will premiere on ABC sometime this year.
