ZTE has announced its new high-end and budget-friendly Android smartphone, the ZTE Axon 7, the successor to last year's Axon.

The new Axon 7 comes with an all-metal casing for its body which curves around the edges for better grip and comfort.

The handset was designed by BMW's Designworks, the same design firm that's also responsible for BMW's X series of vehicles, according to Engadget.

This is Designworks' first smartphone design and it truly doesn't disappoint.

The Axon 7 comes with a quad HD 5.5-inch AMOLED screen and impressive front-facing stereo speakers.

ZTE says that it opted for the QHD AMOLED screen because it had Google's Daydream VR headset in mind. The company also says that it will be releasing its own virtual reality headset alongside the new handset, according to 9To5Google.

The front-facing speakers are also said to be even louder than HTC's Boomsound.

Under the hood, it comes with a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The handset also comes with microSD card support allowing users to add up to 128GB of storage.

The storage option alone is a great improvement from last year's Axon which only came with 32GB of non-upgradable storage.

At the back, the Axon 7 comes with a fingerprint sensor and a 20-megapixel camera with an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization. It is capable of shooting 4K videos at 30fps, and 720p super slow-motion at 240fps. Up front, it has an 8-megapixel camera

If these specs aren't impressive enough, ZTE also announced that it will be releasing a version of the Axon 7 that comes with a pressure-sensitive screen, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.

ZTE has not yet announced when the Axon 7 will be released, but fans will be happy to know that it will still only cost $450, the same price for last year's Axon.

If users are planning on getting the 6GB RAM/128GB model of the handset, it will be a bit more expensive at $640.
