'The Walking Dead' Norman Reedus: 'The Planet Is Going To Explode' When Season 7 Premieres

After the controversial season 6 finale of "The Walking Dead," executive producers Scott M. Gimple and Robert Kirkman both promised that viewers will get a satisfying conclusion to the last season's much talked about cliffhanger.  And having been back on set for season 7, Norman Reedus teased that fans won't be disappointed when the hit AMC series returns in October.

"Trust me. I think probably the planet is going to explode. That's my feeling. It's so good," Reedus told Entertainment Weekly. "Every time we go on a promotional tour talking about what's going to come, we all say 'Oh my God, it's amazing. I can't wait for you to see it.' But it continually surprises me how this show grows and is put together and the execution of it -- no pun intended. It blows my mind. It just continually reaches a new plateau every single time, and this is the highest plateau we've ever been. So just wait. It's worth the wait, trust me."

As for the fan outrage the exploded online after the identity of Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) victim was not revealed at the end of the season 6 finale, Reedus said that he has no problem about it.

"I've been making art for a long time and you want people to talk," said the 47-year-old actor, who plays Daryl Dixon on the zombie drama. "Sometimes you make something just to get people to talk. The fact that people are still talking is a huge compliment to how that episode was executed and the acting in it and the writing of it. That's a good thing. Talk sometimes it's good."

He continued, "I know we all have phones and everything is instant gratification now. I get it. I like that too. I like the controversy, to be honest. For that many people to be that invested in that show and freaking out, I think it's great."

In the letters section of issue #154 of "The Walking Dead" comics, Kirkman promised that the season 7 premiere is going to be "awesome."

"When viewed as a two-part episode (the same way every season of 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' ended with the first half of a two-part episode that was a cliffhanger...), it's going to be a pretty awesome ride," he wrote (via Vanity Fair). "And every minute of the season 6 finale was important and was setting up that you probably won't see coming."

"It's a cool episode," he added of the first episode of the upcoming season. "And remember ... there's a lot more for Negan to do. Be afraid ... be very afraid. And excited!"
