"The Flash" star Grant Gustin has addressed Barry's timeline-tampering decision at the end of the season 2 finale.

Towards the end of the show's sophomore run, Barry was stunned when he discovered that the Man in the Iron Mask, Earth-3's Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp), is the spitting image of his recently murdered father, Henry Allen (Shipp). Desperate, as he told Iris (Candice Patton), to find some "peace," Barry sped off from a family get-together in secret to travel back into the past and save his mom Nora (Michelle Harrison) from being killed by the Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh).

As Barry is well aware of, saving his mom in the past will have an enormous effect in the present. It will cause very big changes that everything that happened over seasons 1 and 2 might not now happen. The same is the case in the Flash-centric DC Comics arc, titled "Flashpoint," which could be the inspiration of the show's season 3.

In a series of tweets that Gustin shared the morning after the finale, Gustin wrote that he doesn't know what will happen in the next season, but he said that viewers (especially those who read the comics) could make assumptions given the "Flashpoint" similarities:

The 26-year-old actor said the same sentiments at The CW Network's 2016 Upfront at The London Hotel on May 19 in New York City.

"I haven't thought about Barry or where he's going since we ended," he told TVLine. "It was such an emotional ending that I needed a break from the character but before Comic-Con I'll talk to our producers to kind of figure out what's going on with season 3."
