Out of all the things most people pursue in life — a good job, nice house, nice car — do they really have what they truly need and truly want?
That seems to be the point Yasiin Bey, aka Mos Def, made on his new song "Dec 99th (N.A.W.)."
On the cut, the Black Star member chose to suspend his potent rap skills for singing and weaves his distinct voice in and out of a dark, slow-grooving track.
As we previously reported, Bey was arrested in South Africa in January of this year and was accused of trying to leave the country with a phony passport. The rapper, however, said he was granted a world passport and thought that was good enough for the folks at customs.
"He was detained upon departure for using illegal travel docs," tweeted South Africa's Minister of Home Affairs after the arrest. "Mr. Smith came in SA with a legitimate US passport but since overstayed his visitor's permit."
