Danny DeVito has revealed that he once advised the boys of One Direction to get some acting lessons.

"The big thing I told (One Direction) when they were breaking up was that they should take all their money and get some acting lessons," the Oscar-nominated actor revealed to the New York Daily News at the fifth annual Reel Stories event in Los Angeles.

Among the remaining four members of the boy band, the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" actor is currently most "delighted" for Harry Styles who is slated to have a role in the Christopher Nolan-directed film, "Dunkirk."

"He is like a natural, a handsome guy and is good," said the 71-year old thespian of the 22-year-old British crooner.

While DeVito thinks that Styles has the looks of a Hollywood star, he believes that the singer's acting skills need more improvement.

"He needs to work on his skills a little," said DeVito, who, on the other hand, still believes that the singer will do well in the movie if he just follows directions.

DeVito saw Styles' acting chops first-hand when he appeared in One Direction's 2014 music video for "Steal My Girl."

Although plot details about "Dunkirk" are being kept under wraps, Deadline reported last March that the role offered to Styles was not a lead role.

Styles' casting came after an extensive casting process conducted by Nolan, his co-producer and partner Emma Thomas and Warner Bros. The singer was believed to have impressed the filmmakers with his readings for the part.

"Dunkirk" centers on the World War II evacuation of Dunkirk, which happened from May to June 1940. Also known Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of Dunkirk was a British military operation that saved some 330,000 Allied soldiers trapped in the harbor and surrounded by the German army. Former British prime minister Winston Churchill described the historical event as "a miracle of deliverance."

Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy are part of the acting ensemble which is mainly composed of newcomers.

Although "Dunkirk" will be his first film role, Styles has been eyed for other big screen roles before. In fact, Harvey Weinstein offered the "Drag Me Down" hitmaker a role Justin Chadwick's "Tulip Fever" only to be turned down by the pop heartthrob.
