'5SOS’ Michael Clifford, Ashton Irwin Gush Over One Direction, Express Gratitude For Big Break

Five Seconds of Summer first gained worldwide attention when they opened for One Direction, and the Aussie lads revealed that they will be forever grateful to 1D for helping them get their first big break in the music industry.
Just little over two years ago, Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Ashton Irwin and Calum Hood were just a garage band playing small gigs in Australia, trying to make a name for themselves in the music industry.
Now, they're fronting their own sold-out concerts around the globe and according to the boys, it's all thanks to One Direction, Unreality TV reported.

In an interview with MYX Philippines, Clifford opened up about One Direction and how the British boy band gave them an opportunity to play huge gigs and "trusted [they] would bring it."
“They gave us a huge platform to work from," he told MYX. "They put us on their tour originally in 2013 when we had no music released! We had one little EP, but it was nothing great… it wasn’t rockin’. They gave us this massive platform and trusted we would bring it.”

The members of 1D invited 5SOS to open for them in their arena tour in 2013 and then their 2014 stadium shows, which gave the Aussie band the opportunity to share their music with thousands of the One Direction fans.
And for Irwin, he and his bandmates definitely made the most out of the chance given to them and gave it their all. He believes that he, Hemmings, Hood and Clifford have put their all into their music as well as every performance.
"They chose the right dudes. We really took that opportunity by the kahunas. When you take four guys like us, and we aspire to be a big band and touch a lot of people, we’re determined. You give us a stage and we’re going to do our best with it," he said, via Unreality TV.
