With the music world still recovering from the fact that Kendrick Lamar just released a new project, many people probably have a slew of questions.
Like when were the songs recorded? Is the project made up of all old material, new stuff or a combination of both?
Today (March 4), Complex caught up with one of K Dot's producers, Terrace Martin, who said the album is made up of various recordings over the past two years. He also talked about that one particular line that appeared to be aimed at Jay Electronica.
According to Martin, nobody on the Top Dawg Entertainment team is even thinking about other rappers, so the line wasn't about anyone specific.
"These records were done two, some of them three years ago," he explained.
"We're not thinking about these guys in these studios. Kids are getting killed. Trump may be president. Do you think we have time to think about another f------ rapper? We got families. We got friends around us that are dying, murdered by folks who look just like us," added Martin.
He also addressed French Montana's recent comments about Kendrick getting too much attention at the Grammy Awards. In Martin's opinion, the Coke Boy rapper shouldn't have a problem with such positive music, especially when it's being so well-received.
"People that are slandering any form of love or any form of change that people can live on, people who slander that are part of the problem. They're not part of the movement," he stated.
"I don't know French personally, but I know frustration personally. I've wanted to voice things like that in the past. Sometimes it comes from no longer feeling as accepted as you once felt. I've felt like that before," Martin added.
