Lionel Richie Launches New Home Collection

Lionel Richie has found yet another channel for his creativity: designing a line of home accessories, which he launched on Feb. 1.

In an interview with the NY Post, Richie said, “Home design has been a passion of mine forever. The idea (of launching a home collection) has been percolating for about six or seven years.”

“I want something that’s going to make a statement in design--classic contemporary is the best way I could describe it,” the 66-year-old music legend said of his designs for Lionel Richie Home.

His self-named home line includes a collection of bone china, decorative barware and stemware and candles.

According to Richie, he draws his inspiration from his love of entertaining in his 1920s Cape Cod-style home in Alabama, which he inherited from his grandmother, as well as the cultural influences that he gets from his frequent travels.

He cited that both his mother and grandmother exposed him to amazing style ranging from ballet and symphony to fine cuisine.

The music icon attributed his design inspirations to his dining experiences, which ranged “from royal palaces to the finest hotels and restaurants."

He named the Gulf-front Corniche Road, the Emirates Palace Hotel, the Palais Garnier, the Louvre courtyard and the grand villas along the shores of Lake Como as his top favorite dining destinations that influenced his love for design.

His website features six collections of bone china motifs named Riviera, Regal, Geneva, Versailles, London and Milano. He also has four styles for his weighted crystal barware named Manhattan, Empire, Rockefeller and Park Avenue, while his decorative glass wares are named Firenze vase, Jardin Sphere, and the Sunset votive. The collection retails from $15 to $1,300.

Sometime this spring, the collection will also be available at Gracious Home, according to WWD.

In April, he will be launching a line of fragrant candles and in May, the company will open LR Loft which will be comprised of colorful home accessories for the younger demographics.

Richie will also launch LR Studio, which will target restaurants and hotels.
