Lego has come up with a new product called the Architecture Skyline Collection which is launched as part of the Lego Architecture brand which is focused on architects and designers as their main target market.
As reported by Wired, "Even a Lego master builder is likely to have a hard time constructing New York City's skyline from scratch. After all, the Chrysler Building is famous for its art deco curves—and they don't make Legos as skinny as the Flatiron Building."
Fortunately, Lego this week unveiled its new Architecture Skyline Collection. According to a report by ArchDaily, the Danish toy brand will soon be launching three sets featuring the skylines of New York City, Venice and Berlin.
What makes this new product line unique is that it will allow users to re-create up to five of the most popular buildings in each of the three cities.
One World Trade Center, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Statue of Liberty and the Flatiron Building represent New York City.
The Venice collection consists of the Rialto Bridge, St. Mark’s Campanile, St. Mark’s Basilica, St. Theodore and the Winged Lion of St. Mark and the Bridge of Sighs.
The city of Berlin will be represented by its candy-striped Berlin TV Tower, the New German Parliament Reichstag, Bradenburg Gate, Deutsche Bahn Tower and a recreation of the Berlin Wall’s decorated sections.
The sets will be sold inclusive of a booklet which tells the history of each building. According to the Lego site, each landmark will retail from $30 to $60. The collection is set to appear on store shelves by Jan. 1, 2016.
However, looking at the website, it seems that the kits have already been released online and are selling out fast.
In an interview with Curbed, a representative of the company said that the selection of landmarks “capture the architectural essence” of the cities. And indeed, Lego’s new Architecture collection truly represents the historical and cultural values through its re-creations of each cities’ built environment.
