Recently highlighted on the home tour edition of our favored company One Kings Lane, Julia Chaplin opened the doors of her newly renovated home in Carroll Gardens. And left us stunned.
Julia Chaplin coined the termed "Gypset" and is known for her successful book series — Gypset Style, Gypset Travel and Gypset Living — published by Assouline. A Gypset is one that fuses the ease and carefree lifestyle of a gypsy, yet has the sophisticated taste of the jet setter — individuals from artists to surfers who live and work around the globe. These creative individuals with curious souls love to explore the unconventional and inhabit a bohemian culture.
Julia Chaplin is a journalist, author, designer, brand consultant and avid adventurer who has uniquely mastered the spirit of a chic, bohemia-inspired lifestyle. She is the ultimate gypset!
With an eye for design and a hobby that takes her around the globe, Chaplin has curated a matchless collection of objects from around the globe that have resulted in her eclectic home environment. We're talking specifically about her living room, just one of the dreamy spaces within what she calls her sanctuary.
We love the entire mood of her living room, from the oversized floor mirror and ceiling lantern to the beautiful blue area rug that covers the majority of the hardwood flooring. We are especially moved by this bold Camaleonda 1970s sofa design that was created by Mario Bellini for B&B Italia!
Chaplin told One Kings Lane of her home, "It's incredibly zen and quiet, a place where I can think and process all the stuff I've picked up running around the world. Nothing is jarring, loud or too distracting."
We believe living areas should evoke a sense of tranquility even when amongst juxtaposing styles and aesthetics. A room becomes a powerful environment when the objects that fill the space serve as a memory, when a design has a story behind it.
It is about developing a striking contradiction of different ideas that ignite interest, while still achieving a cohesiveness that results in a beautiful interior that people want to spend time in. This is something Chaplin has been able to master.
Lifestyle Links isn't solely about combining design details into your living space but also finding style elements that you can appreciate and incorporate into your approach to dressing.
This week we're remembering one of our favorite street-style looks from the spring/summer '15 shows in New York City — namely, a white caftan dress and blue rope lace up sandals.
Likewise to Chaplin's Brooklyn home, the look is modest and relaxed, yet incorporates a bit of zing that catches your attention. The silhouette and loose beach waves convey a bohemia spirit, while the footwear and accessories keep the outfit refined and luxe — further identifying this week's juxtaposing elements.
We've searched Amazon to bring you an inspired collection of home furnishings and fashions to help you master your very own sanctuary and outfit. We hope you are influenced to continue curating a lifestyle that is your own, one that embodies the spirit of a true bohemian — a gypset.
