1. Solace & The Moonlight Lounge - Downtown Encinitas
Located in downtown Encinitas, this laid back restaurant provides the ultimate relaxed, sunny and artistic environment in which to enjoy an artisan meat and cheese board. I ventured here with quite the appetite and, thankfully, their selection allows you to mix and match according to the preferred selection and amount of savory treats you wish to devour. The board comes with fig honey compote, spiced pecans, local honey and spicy mustard, all on a warm board. Prices vary from $15.00 to $24.00.
2. Panama 66 - Balboa Park
In a previous WanderList we featured Blind Lady Ale House. The same owners have recently opened Panama 66 — a cool spot for draft beer, local food and craft cocktails right in the heart of Balboa Park. What makes this restaurant unique is that its location allows for food and drinks to be delivered to an adjoining grass area, ideal for picnic lovers or for those who just want to check out their collection of outdoor art sculptures. The cheese board comes with local, in-season fruit, honeycomb, roasted nuts and bread and the charcuterie offering includes salami, house-prepared meats, seasoned condiments and bread — both priced at $15.00.
3. Cucina Urbana - Bankers Hill
This popular and authentic Italian restaurant in Bankers Hill offers a wide selection of pizza, pasta, and, of course, formaggi and salumi plates. Cucina's meat and cheese boards give visitors the option to choose a small, medium or large amount, priced at $12.00 for three choices, $15.00 for four choices and $18.00 for five choices.
Cheese varities include cacio di bosco al tartufo, verde capra, sawtooth, lagrein and robiola, just to name a few. Salumi options include coppa, country pate, proscuitto di parma ruliano, bresaola, calabrese and saucisson sec.
4. Counterpoint - Golden Hill
This restaurant's meat and cheese board is simple and delicious, boasting a rotation of seasonal offerings. Counterpoint's charcuterie and cheese is served on one board and is offered at a deal of $15.00. For those who love a great cocktail, try the latest addition to their drink menu — buffalo trace bourbon, orange juice, lemon, sugar, house-made orange bitters with IPA float!
5. Craft & Commerce - Little Italy
Located in San Diego's charming Little Italy neighborhood, this downtown hot spot provides customers with an authentic yet hip dining environment. Classified as more of a snack option for dining, you will still be completely satisfied with the restaurant's artisan cheese and charcuterie board which includes a changing house selection with original accoutrement, priced for $16.00. Similar to Counterpoint, see Craft & Commerce's unique list of craft cocktails, shaken or stirred — or peruse their beer and wine selection — your thirst will be happily quenched.
6. Vin De Syrah - Gaslamp
Located in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, Vin De Syrah offers one of the most extensive cheese and charcuterie boards to choose from. Their cheese board includes three artisanal cheeses served with a french baguette and accoutrements and their meat board includes three types of exotic meats from around the world, a french baguette and house spreads. Customers have the option to order a small or large portion of each, with prices ranging from $15.00 to $22.00.
But the options don't end just yet, Syrah also features a mixed board which includes a combination of three meats and three cheeses, all which come with bread and house spreads. You could also try their blend board which includes two types of meats and cheeses, paired with marinated veggies.
If you can't quite decide between sweet or savory, then try the cheese and chocolate board which features a pairing of two artisanal cheeses with some chocolate treats, a combination which varies weekly.
