Donald Trump's First Mansion Lists For $54 Million
It is safe to say that just about everyone has heard the name Donald Trump, one of the country's most notable entrepreneurs for nearly 50 years. The real estate tycoon has successfully managed to maintain the moulding of the commercial market, write several books and host his television show, "The Apprentice", all while preserving his cunning and business-driven shrewdness.
The bold and brash chairman and president of The Trump Organization owns, invests, sells and operates real estate and golf courses worldwide. The company has a stake in Trump Entertainment Resorts, operates the Trump Taj Mahal, the Trump Plaza and the Trump Marina Casinos in Atlantic City, N.J.
Along with NBC, the Trump Organization owns the franchises to Miss USA, Miss Teen USA and Miss Universe beauty pageants.
Ivana Trump, Donald Trump's first wife, purchased this 5.8 peninsula mansion in Greenwich, Conn. in 1982 for $4 million. The home had originally been built for $200,000 in 1939 — a Georgian Colonial-style main house and a guesthouse with eight bedrooms and 13 baths.
Ivana was given the job of refurbishing the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan while simultaneously updating the couple's Greenwich residence with dripping gold leaf and elegant features. The couple divorced in 1991 and the former Mrs. Trump received the mansion in the property settlement, which she then sold for $15 million in 1998.
The owners immediately began to renovate the property to suit a more "livable" lifestyle, adding tennis courts and a 4,000-square-foot addition of guest suites, a lap pool and a sauna. The mansion includes a three-story rotunda foyer with a double grand staircase, formal rooms overlooking the pool, a home theater, putting green, multiple terraces and patios, not to mention three fully-equipped staff apartments.
The mansion is grand, yet intimate and inviting for daily family living or entertaining. The estate allows for plenty of privacy with six waterfront acres and a private boat dock — currently listed on the market for $54 million.
