Kevin Durand will make his first appearance as Harbard in the upcoming Season 3 premiere of "Vikings." And while the 41-year-old actor refused to give away too many details about his cryptic role, he did confirm during a phone interview with Monsters and Critics that Siggy (Jessalyn Gilsig) isn't a fan of his character.
Harbard is a wanderer who suddenly shows up in Kattegat when Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and most of the men and shieldmaidens of the small town are away raiding other lands.
April Neale of Monters and Critics, who has already seen the first three episodes of the latest installment, described Harbard as seemingly harmless but his unexpected arrival in the town reportedly brings pretentious air in Kattegat.
According to Neale, Harbard will have a profound effect on Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland), Helga (Maude Hirst), and Siggy. All three women have had similar dreams, foreshadowing his arrival. But among all the three of them, it is Siggy who is said to be the most dubious about Harbard.
Asked if Harbard will eventually win Siggy's trust, Durand said, "I think she remained quite skeptical of what Harbard's intentions are. She's a soft one."
Whether Siggy is right or wrong about Harbard, viewers will eventually know as the season progresses, added Durand, who plays Vasiliy Fet on FX's vampire horror series "The Strain."
Durand went on to tease that Harbard isn't only plain "mysterious," but also "kind of mystical."
The Canadian actor, who's also known for portraying Fred J. Dukes / The Blob in the 2009 film "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," revealed that he will appear in three episodes of the upcoming season.
Aside from Durand, there are other actors joining the show for its third installment.
English actress Jennie Jacques signed on to play Judith, the daughter of Saxon King Aelle (Ivan Kaye) and bride to Aethelwulf (Moe Dunford), who is the son of Saxon King Ecbert (Linus Roache). She eventually becomes the mother of notable historical figure Alfred the Great, according to Deadline.
Ben Robson also joined the Michael Hirst-directed series as Kalf, Lagertha's (Katheryn Winnick) trusted second in command. Lagertha, a.k.a. Earl Ingstad of Hedeby, leaves Kalf in charge when she goes to raid with Ragnar. But Lagertha may have underestimated Kalf, who will quickly make himself a major player, and can be a central figure in future seasons, according to TV Guide.
Lothaire Bluteau also landed a role in the third season of the show. He will portray Emperor Charles of France, a father to Princess Gisla -- a character that will be played by French actress Morgane Polanski, another newcomer in the show.
"Vikings" returns Thursday, Feb. 19, at 10:00 p.m. ET on History.
