1. Warren Isensee at Danese Corey Gallery

I frequently enjoy going to Chelsea to view the incredible galleries that live throughout 24th to 28th Street off 9th Ave. There is always a wide range of exhibitions to check out, and my most recent favorite was at the Danese Corey Gallery, featuring artist Warren Isensee. New Paintings and Drawings by Isensee plays with geometry, luminous color palettes and breathes new life into lines. The exhibition will be open until Feb. 7!

2. Decor Idea

I saw this idea and thought it looked like a perfect and easy DIY project for my indoor or outdoor settings, or maybe even as a gift for friends! I happen to love candles, and an abundance of jars always find their way into my home. So why not utilize them together in a tasteful way?

Any flower or leaf/stem will do... It is ultimately up to your preference and what you like, but I'd stay away from flowers that wilt easily, or else you will be interchanging them more than usual. Also, be sure that your candle size fits nicely in the jar's mouth!

This is also great gift idea for spring, a birthday or simply as a hostess gift. Wrap a ribbon or a tag around the jar's neck and give one to a friend or family member! You could always get your mom or grandmother a Valentine's Day gift as well...

3. Automatic Slims

I was cruising around the Meatpacking District last weekend and came across this particular location. I was drawn to its exterior by the photography display mounted onto the white bricks, and later realized that the spot was actually a bar. Located at Washington and Bank streets, I had wondered how I never noticed this place before and decided to go inside for a happy hour beverage.

If you're into a lively scene, enjoy the dive bar vibe and can appreciate the location — give this spot a try!

4. 230 Fifth

Since I moved to Manhattan, everyone had been telling me to check out the rooftop bar at 230 Fifth. It may be a known tourist trap and the cocktails may be overpriced, but I finally had to see it for myself. I must say, regardless of the negative comments from New Yorkers, the views off the rooftop are pretty remarkable as you can see downtown, parts of the East River and of course, the Empire State Building.

And the perk? They have a pink elephant! Of course I had to take a picture on it...

5. The Winter Recipe You'll Love

There is nothing quite like a mother's cooking, but I'll take her recipe and attempt the talent myself. This happens to be one of my favorites — Asparagus Chicken Enchiladas.

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1/2 C flour
  • 3 C chicken broth
  • 8 oz. sour cream
  • 1/2 C green taco sauce
  • A Dozen 7" flour torillas
  • 3 C monterey jack cheese (grated)
  • 3 C cooked chicken (cut up)
  • 1/2 C finely chopped green onions
  • 2 1/2 lb. asparagus (trimmed and cooked)
  • 1/2 C grated parmesan cheese

Directions

- Melt butter, add flour and cook stirring for one minute. Gradually add broth. Continue stirring until thick for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add sour cream and taco sauce, set aside.

- Preheat oven to 425 degrees, lightly butter 2 Pyrex trays.

- Work with one tortilla at a time. Place 2T jack cheese, 1/4 C chicken, green onion, two asparagus spears and 3T suace. Roll up, seam side down. Sprinkle remainder of Jack cheese and sauce. Put parmesan cheese on top.

-Bake for 25 minutes and viola — the most delicious, gooey filled enchiladas! The perfect warm meal on a snowy day, New Yorkers!
